Scouts in the National Pike District can knock out some of the requirements for the Journalism merit badge at this session at the East Columbia Library, led by Merit Badge Counselor Jason Whong, the publisher and editor of The Business Monthly and cubmaster of Pack 371. Learn about careers in journalism with Jason and with Ted Fioraliso, an Eagle Scout and longtime broadcast journalist based in Washington.

At this meeting we will work on requirements 1, 3 and 5, and we will vote on where to visit for requirement 2 (a visit to a newspaper, magazine, or internet news site, or a radio or television station). Bring your calendars.

There will be homework for requirements 3 and 4.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: Though it is not required, there is a possibility that your work may be published in The Business Monthly, in bizmonthly.com or both, upon completion of the merit badge.

Please note your troop in the comments. And of course, tell your scoutmaster you want to earn the Journalism merit badge, and get your blue card.

Not an official Howard County Library System event. The library system requires that we list a non-library phone number on this information: Scouts please have a parent call Jason Whong at (607) 426-5661. Scouts, please do not call or text yourself.
