About Fort McHenry
The Fort McHenry District exists to handle the “heavy lifting” so you can focus on your Scouts. As the Baltimore City branch of the Baltimore Area Council, we provide the infrastructure, logistics, and expertise that keep your unit running smoothly without you having to “recreate the wheel.”
The Fort McHenry District serves over 400 youth in Baltimore City. The district is composed of 28 units, including 14 Cub Scout Packs and 13 Scouts BSA Troops.
"The spirit is there in every child; it has to be discovered and brought to light." —

“Plug-and-Play” Programming
We organize high-impact events that are difficult for single units to manage alone. Your unit simply signs up and shows up:
-
Unique Venues: Overnight campouts at the Maryland Science Center and other historic Baltimore landmarks.
-
Elite Competition: The District Finalist Pinewood Derby, featuring professional tracks and city-wide bragging rights.
-
STEM & Adventure: Large-scale rocket launches, science clinics, swimming qualifications and coordinated archery and rifle shooting with certified instructors.
The Commissioner Program: Your “Best Friend”
Every unit is assigned a Unit Commissioner—a veteran volunteer dedicated to your success. They act as your advocate and consultant, helping you navigate rechartering, troubleshoot program challenges, and connect you with Council resources.
Building Better Leaders
We provide the local training necessary to keep your leadership team confident and compliant:
-
Position-Specific Training: Specialized courses for every role, from Den Leader to Committee Chair.
-
Safety First: Facilitation of Youth Protection (YPT), Hazardous Weather, Safe Swim Defense, and Safety Afloat.
-
Outdoor Skills: Hands-on BALOO and IOLS training to master the art of camping.
The Monthly Roundtable
Roundtable is our district “huddle.” It’s your monthly opportunity to:
Network: Swap gear and advice with other Baltimore City leaders.
Stay Informed: Get early access to event registrations and Council updates.
Collaborate: Ensure your unit’s voice is heard in district planning.
