From the Scout Executive
August 2025
This summer at Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation was one for the history books. From exciting program highlights to much-needed facility upgrades, Broad Creek was alive with the spirit of Scouting, the sounds of adventure, and the laughter of thousands of Scouts making lifelong memories.
A Celebration in the Sky
A highlight of the summer camp season came during Week Two, when campers and neighbors were treated to an incredible fireworks show over Lake Straus. Thanks to the generous support of the Hamel Foundation and the expertise of Image Engineering, the night sky lit up in brilliant colors, reflecting on the water and sparking awe among Scouts and leaders alike. For many, it was their first time seeing fireworks from a lakeside view — and now in it’s second year, it’s a tradition we will continue.
New Facilities for a New Era of Camp
This year also marked the grand opening of our three brand-new bathroom and shower facilities — a $2.4 million investment in comfort, safety, and inclusivity. These modern all season buildings each feature 10 single-user stalls complete with a sink, shower, and toilet, ensuring privacy for all campers — boys, girls, youth, and adults alike. Fully equipped with heating and air conditioning, they’ll be in use year-round to support our ever-growing roster of programs.
Investing in Our Staff’s Future
Behind every great camp experience is a great camp staff. The Broad Creek Camp Staff College Scholarship Endowment Program, established in 2021, was created to recognize and retain our top-performing staff members who are pursuing higher education or trade school. This year, we proudly awarded $25,000 in scholarships to 11 deserving staff members. Their dedication, energy, and leadership inspire the Scouts they serve — and these scholarships help ensure that their own dreams remain within reach.

A Season of Adventure and Growth
From sunup to sundown, Broad Creek buzzed with energy this summer. Scouts hiked our scenic trails, conquered the climbing wall, hit the mark on the archery range, paddled across the lake, and gathered for campfires filled with songs, skits, and camaraderie. They learned new skills, earned merit badges, and discovered the joy of unplugging from technology to connect with nature, their fellow Scouts, and themselves.
As I reflect on this summer, I am filled with gratitude — for the staff who worked tirelessly, the volunteers who gave their time, the families who trusted us, and the donors whose generosity makes moments like these possible. Broad Creek is more than just a camp. It’s where character is shaped, friendships are forged, and the next generation of leaders finds its voice.
Here’s to the memories made this year, and to an even brighter summer ahead.
