Eagle Scout Project Spotlight: Beautifying Sandy Point State Park Headquarters

Eagle Scout Charlotte Acks Transforms Sandy Point State Park Headquarters

For Charlotte Acks, an Eagle Scout from Troop 1975 in Severn, MD, Scouting has always been about leaving the world a little better than she found it. Her Eagle Scout project at Sandy Point State Park’s headquarters in Annapolis, MD, is a shining example of this commitment.

Charlotte rallied her family, friends, and fellow Scouts to tackle a conservation and beautification effort that transformed the landscaping around the park’s headquarters building. What was once an overgrown and invasive garden is now a vibrant, welcoming space that supports the environment and inspires pride in the park’s staff.

Restoring Beauty and Functionality

Charlotte’s project began with the removal of invasive and overgrown plants that had overtaken the garden beds. With the help of over 20 volunteers, she replaced the aging wooden beams with sturdy cement retaining wall blocks and replanted the beds with native, deer-resistant, and pollinator-friendly plants.

“The goal was to create something beautiful that the rangers could take pride in and that visitors would feel welcomed by,” Charlotte shared.

Community Effort, Lasting Impact

The project was a true labor of love. Over two workdays, Charlotte and her team dedicated a total of 284 hours to bring her vision to life. The results speak for themselves: a revitalized garden that is easier to maintain and a headquarters building that radiates pride and care.

Charlotte’s project not only beautifies the space but also supports local pollinators and creates an eco-friendly environment that reflects the values of Scouting.

A Legacy of Service

Charlotte’s efforts exemplify what it means to be an Eagle Scout—leading with purpose, involving the community, and making a tangible difference. Troop 1975 and St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church in Severn can be proud of this remarkable achievement.

Congratulations to Charlotte Acks on earning the rank of Eagle Scout and for her lasting contribution to Sandy Point State Park. Your leadership and dedication have left an incredible mark on the community!
