For nearly 20 years, the Charlie Riley Community Service Scholarship Foundation has recognized and celebrated youth and community leaders who exemplify the values of service, leadership, and education. With a dual mission, the foundation provides financial assistance for post-secondary education to Harford County high school seniors displaying exemplary community service and to Fire and EMS members of Harford County’s fire service stations to further their education or training. To date, the foundation has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships, creating a legacy of support for those who serve their communities selflessly.
This year, six Scouts, four of which are Eagle Scouts from the Baltimore Area Council, were among the recipients of the prestigious scholarship, highlighting their remarkable achievements in community service through impactful Eagle Scout projects. These projects, required to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, demonstrate their leadership, organizational skills, and dedication to making lasting contributions to their communities.
Meet the 2024 Eagle Scout Honorees:
🏅 Nathan Barczak – Eagle Scout, Troop 265, Fallston High School
Nathan built a 20-foot covered pedestrian bridge at Gunpowder State Park, providing safer access for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. His project reflects his dedication to environmental stewardship and enhancing outdoor recreation in Harford County.
🏅 Justin Davis – Eagle Scout, Troop 265, Bel Air High School
Justin constructed a small bridge at Forest Hill Recreation Complex, benefiting the Harford County Parks and Recreation Department. His project improves accessibility and safety, ensuring the complex continues to serve the community effectively.
🏅 Kane Evans – Eagle Scout, Troop 810, Patterson Mill High School
Kane led a project to restore a bridge along the Little Gunpowder Trail, improving a vital recreational space for hikers and preserving a natural area beloved by the community.
🏅 Justin Naylor – Eagle Scout, Troop 313, Joppatowne High School
Justin built four sturdy picnic tables for Joppatowne Elementary School, creating a functional outdoor space for students and staff to enjoy learning and recreation in the open air.
