Scouting Spotlight: Fox 45’s Amy Aaronson Visits the Baltimore Area Council
This morning, the Scout Service Center was buzzing with excitement as Amy Aaronson from Fox 45 WBFF Baltimore joined Kenn Miller, Scout Executive and CEO of the Baltimore Area Council, for a special series of interviews. The goal? To share with the community the fun, family-oriented, and leadership oriented opportunities that Scouting offers.
Building Tomorrow’s Leaders
Amy’s first conversation was with Jack Joseph, a Life Scout from Troop 124. Jack discussed the benefits of Scouting, including leadership development, community service, and personal growth. “It’s really an amazing opportunity to get outdoors and meet new people,” Jack explained, “and also learn lifelong skills like leadership and how to work as a team with people.” Kenn Miller discussed the goal to spread awareness around Scouting in the Central Maryland region and encouraged parents to go to BeAScout.org to find one of the over 400 Cub Scout Packs near them to check out and join!
Fun for All Ages
Next, Amy sat down with Suzy Ross, a Lion Cub from Pack 445. Suzy enthusiastically shared her favorite Scouting activities, from camping to creating unicorn-filled pinewood derby cars. Suzy also showed off her beautiful derby car and sported awesome blue and gold Cub Scout hair bows with a big smile. Kenn Miller highlighted the joy and excitement that Scouting brings to the youngest members, emphasizing how it lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning and exploration.
Family-Friendly and Flexible
Amy’s final interview was with Kate Loomis, a Cub Scout Mom from Pack 855. Kate spoke passionately about how Scouting is an activity the entire family can enjoy. “There are a lot of activities where you drop your kid off or watch from the sidelines but this is a great opportunity to get in there, to be involved with them,” she shared. “One of the things I really love about the program is they really do put so many great life skills into the program… so there are a lot of great opportunities for them to develop along the way. And again – that’s what I love about it, it’s a family program.” Kenn Miller echoed her sentiments, noting that the Baltimore Area Council offers a variety of programs designed to accommodate entire families while still providing a rich, fulfilling Scouting experience.
