Twelve-year-old First Class Scout Liliana Simmons from Annapolis, Maryland recently entered her science fair project titled “Get a Grip!” featuring a 3D-printer prosthetic hand into the Anne Arundel County Regional Science and Engineering Expo and her project won six awards!
These include:
- First Place Biomedical and Health Sciences
- Yosef Wonsever Memorial STEM award
- Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge Nominee
- 21st Century Foundation Middle School Choice award
- US Air Force Certificate of Achievement
- The Lemelson Early Inventor Grand Prize
Her project tested the grip strength of different strings used to determine how different materials would impact the readings on a dynamometer. Her future goal is to learn how to develop more affordable prosthetics for those who need them.
