Each year, River Hawk District recognizes the outstanding efforts of the many volunteers who contribute significantly to their units and the district. In addition, deserving youth are recognized for their contributions to Scouting. These awards are presented at the Annual District Dinner in June. Nominations are due by April 15 of the year the award is to be presented.

The District Award of Merit
This is the only BSA national award presented to registered adult volunteer Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the District level, to include service beyond Scouting. Award of Merit winners are recognized in a special ceremony that is the highlight of our District Dinner. Recipients earn a plaque, certificate, lapel pin, and an embroidered overhand silver on dark blue award knot to be worn on the Scout uniform above the left pocket. If you’d like to nominate a worthy Scouter for the Award of Merit, just fill out the nomination form and send supporting documents to Awards@RiverHawkBAC.org
Other District Awards
Individuals and units can also nominate outstanding Scouters for other District Awards, to be presented at the River Hawk District Dinner. Just fill out the nomination form and attach written justification for your award candidates. Return form and justifications to the email address on the nomination form.
District Awards include:
- SCOUT OF THE YEAR (1 award presented)
This YOUTH scouter exhibits the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. They go beyond what is expected of a youth focusing specifically on expanding the scouting program in membership, community service, or new program activities that enable the district to deliver the promise of Scouting across a unified Anne Arundel County. - UNIT LEVEL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR (Certificate, 1 per unit may be awarded)
Every Unit should choose their recipient for this award. This is the Den Leader, Committee Chair, Counselor, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, community member, etc. who has gone above and beyond what is asked for and is anbexample of excellence in their respective unit. - CUB SCOUT LEADER OF THE YEAR (Framed Certificate or Plaque, 1 award presented)
This individual has completed all of their required position specific training and contributes to the betterment of the overall Cub Scout experience through providing exciting program opportunities, promotion of their program, and having an impact beyond their individual unit. - SCOUTS BSA LEADER OF THE YEAR (Framed Certificate or Plaque, 1 award presented)
This individual has completed all of their required position specific training and contributes to the betterment of the overall Scouts BSA experience through providing exciting program opportunities, promotion of their program, and having an impact beyond their individual unit. - SHIP OR CREW LEADER OF THE YEAR (Framed Certificate or Plaque, 1 award presented)
This individual has completed all of their required position specific training and contributes to the betterment of the overall senior scouting experience through providing exciting program opportunities, promotion of their program, and having an impact beyond their individual unit. - SCOUT FAMILY OF THE YEAR (Framed Certificate or Plaque, 1 award presented)
This family participates in and represents the ideals of Scouting. Their service is an example of the family commitment to Scouting that enables for the best Scouting experience for their units and other youth in the count
